How to use it

  1. List the roles in scope and the few skills each role needs to meet this year’s goal. Five to ten skills per role is enough.
  2. Rate the required level from the job, not from the people. Then rate the current level from evidence: test scores, observations or manager reviews.
  3. Read the ranked gaps. Priority weighs the size of the gap by the number of people who have it. Start with the top three.
  4. Download the CSV, or use the full Excel template for the goals, evidence, owners and dates.
FAQ

Questions

What is a training needs analysis?

A training needs analysis compares the skills a role needs with the skills people have today, then decides which gaps training should close first. It works at three levels: the organization, the role and the person.

How does the tool set the priority?

It multiplies the gap (required minus current level) by the number of people with that gap. A gap of two or more for many people comes out high. A gap of one for a few people comes out low.

Is my data saved or shared?

The rows stay in your own browser so you can come back to them. Nothing is sent to Classbase or anyone else. Start again with the example to clear them.

What do I do after the analysis?

Turn the top gaps into training with an owner and a date, then check the same skills again after the training. In Classbase, you can build a course for a gap from your own documents and see who finished it.
